Student Living in Nottingham
Where to live, how to get around and what it costs, plus student accommodation near each university campus.
A practical guide to living in Nottingham
Nottingham is a compact, friendly city with two large universities, Nottingham Trent University (NTU) and the University of Nottingham. Most students can get between home, campus and the city centre without a car, and rent goes further here than in many UK university cities.
The Student Lodge has 19 buildings across Nottingham and West Bridgford. This page covers the basics of where students live, how getting around works and what to budget for, then helps you find accommodation by campus.
Where our students live
Our buildings sit in a few neighbourhoods, each with a slightly different feel. Every building page shows the exact address and travel times to each campus.
Radford and Hyson Green
Home to most of our buildings. Shops, takeaways and cafes are close by, and frequent buses and the NET tram head into the city centre. A good all-round base for NTU City Campus and the University of Nottingham.
Alfreton Road and Gregory Boulevard
Busy residential streets with local shops and plenty of bus links. Popular with students who want a lively area at a sensible price.
City centre edge
Our Carlton Road and Manvers Street buildings are close to the Lace Market, the station and NTU City Campus, with the city centre on the doorstep.
West Bridgford
A quieter, leafier suburb south of the River Trent. A useful option for students heading to NTU Clifton Campus, with good bus links into town.
Getting around Nottingham
NET (Nottingham Express Transit) is the city tram network. Stops such as The Forest and Hyson Green Market are a short walk from many of our buildings, and trams run through the city centre to the station and beyond.
Buses cover the rest. Nottingham City Transport and other operators run frequent services between our neighbourhoods, the city centre and the university campuses. Check current fares, student tickets and timetables with the operators before term starts.
Nottingham is also a good city for cycling and walking, and several of our buildings are a walk or cycle from NTU City Campus, from about 12 to 30 minutes on foot. Journey times in this guide are approximate and will vary with traffic and the time of day.
What it costs
Rooms start from £99 per week, and every price includes gas, electricity, water, WiFi and contents insurance. There are no separate bills to set up or split between housemates.
Tenancies run for 49 or 52 weeks, so you can plan your year around one weekly payment. Beyond rent, most students budget for food, travel and a bit of social spending. Our room types page shows what each type costs.
